Tokyo 2020, but in Sapporo, Hokkaido?
It was apparently a big problem that the Marathon and race walk would take place in August in Tokyo. We sometimes visited Tokyo in Summer, it was really hot, the heat almost killed us. Too hot for such sports.
But the announcement of the Olympic committee was also big surprise. The replacement will take place in Sapporo?! Some sports will not take place in Tokyo, but relatively near from Tokyo. But Sapporo is so far way from Tokyo.

Maybe you have a better chance to watch the games in Sapporo than in Tokyo. Because only these 2 sports events take place in Sapporo, it would not be that crowded. The Odori park is very spacious, it would be easier to find a spot to watch the race than in Tokyo.
If you are going to watch the Olympic games in Sapporo, we recommend to prepare something against the heat. We visited Hokkaido in Summer too, it was not that cool, a little bit cooler than Tokyo, but it was for us enough hot ..
