You are currently viewing Gotokuji Temple, the birthplace of Maneki Neko

3 minutes of walk from Miyanosaka station

If you have a chance to ride the Tokyu Setagaya line, we recommend to visit the Gotoku ji (Gotokuji temple).

The Gotokuji is one of many traditional temples in Japan, but it is still a that popular spot for international tourists.

There is a station called “Gotokuji” from the Odayku line, but the access from Miyanosaka station from the Tokyu Setagaya line is better.

It’s really amazing that this temple has a quiet and clean atmosphere, it’s hard to believe that we were still close Shibuya (5km).

The birthplace of Manekineko

There are some possible origins of Maneki neko, it is said that the Gotokuji is maybe the birthplace of Maneki neko.

If you take a look at this view, you can believe that this is the birthplace of Maneki neko.

Oh God, how many cats are there?

You can notice that these Maneki Nekos are little bit different from the Maneki Neko which is decorated as a mascot at shops. The Maneki Neko from Gotoku ji has no gold coins, because it depends on the legend of the Gotoku ji. The Maneki Neko from Gotoku ji brings only a chance, but if it can be taken well, that depends on you.

It would be nice spot for Instagrammers, especially cat lovers. Photos with numerous cats seem amazing.

It would be really hard to count the accurate number of Maneki neko.

Every tiny space is filled by small Maneki nekos.

If you want to have one, it is possible to buy one at the shop of the temple.
